PTFE Sheet Virgin Grade (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene)
Click here to buy PTFE Sheet.
PTFE is a very good engineering plastic that has some fantastic properties. It provides some unique advantages over other materials in a combination that is exclusive to this material. Some of the more advantageous properties are:
- Low Friction
- High operating temperatures
- Excellent electrical resistance
- Very good acid / chemical resistance
- Low moisture absorption
- Easy to machine
- Bonding
This excellent engineering plastic known as PTFE Sheet is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.25mm thick up to 50mm thick and is generally known as a semi finished plastic, which means that further "finish" machining is expected to incate complicated parts.
PTFE Sheet for Low Friction
This exceptional materials has a fantastically low co-efficient of friction and has been described as the most slippery solid material known to man and has friction values which are simular to that of ice, making PTFE Sheet perfect for low friction applications.
PTFE Sheet and High Operating Temperatures
As a high perfomance engineering plastic, PTFE Sheet it has one of the highest operating temperatures of all the engineering plastics and at over plus 250°C few can match this high performance material.
PTFE Sheet for Electrical Resistance
This is one of the best materials to use in environments where high electrical insulation is required and PTFE Sheet materials will outperform most other plastics.
PTFE Sheet for Acid/Chemical Resistance
This is another area where PTFE Sheet excells and offers excellent resistance to both chemical and acid attack and will resist the more aggressive concentrations at higher temperatures.
PTFE Sheet for Low Moisture Absorption
PTFE Sheet has shown to have minimal moisture absorption and provides a platform for more stable components where this high performance enginnering plastic can further outperform other plastics.
PTFE Sheet Machining
Because this is a high performance engineering plastic, PTFE sheet can be a very easy plastic to machine although care must be taken to ensure that this relatively soft material is not damaged and can provide components with excelent finish.
PTFE Sheet Bonding
Although it is difficult to bond PTFE Sheet can be bonded with careful preparations and the correct adhesive , we also recommend consulting an adhesive specialist.
PTFE Sheet Availability
PTFE Sheet is generally manufactured in sheet sizes 1200 x 1200, although some thinner sizes are manufactured in 1500 x 1500. Some of the thicker sheets are only available in sizes of 600 x 600.
PTFE Sheet for Laser Cutting
We would not recommend laser cutting of PTFE Sheet or any plastics as the fumes could be hazardous to health and the standard extraction system would be unable to filter the fine particles and remove potential hazardous fumes. An alternative would be either high pressure water jet cutting or CNC Router cutting machines.
PTFE Sheet for Food Contact
Another excellent advantage with PTFE Sheet is the ability with direct contact with food or food preparation environments. This plastic does have an FDA approval and means that any direct contact with food, PTFE will provide a safe solution.
PTFE Sheet for low temperatures
One of the often overlooked and key features of PTFE Sheet is the low end temperature resistance and performance. Because PTFE Sheet can withstand temperatures as low as -260°C and still retain its properties, it is often chosen to line the inside of cryogenic vessels as there are very few materials that can withstand these extreme temperatures.
